The National Refurbishment Centre: Reality Zone

Providing real-life refurbishment data

The National Refurbishment Centre is presenting the Reality Zone, a space dedicated to refurbishment and retrofit.

A joint initiative between the Energy Saving Trust and the BRE Trust, the National Refurbishment Centre supports the practical delivery of green refurbishment and retrofit, based on evidence from a nationwide demonstration network of up to 500 refurbishment exemplars.

This performance data, held in the Refurbishment Portal will help industry take an evidence-based approach to delivering mass sustainable refurbishment in the UK.

Sharing best practice

The Reality Zone is showcasing case studies of domestic and non-domestic refurbishment exemplars, present real-life data about how best to make existing buildings energy efficient.

Each one is provided by leading industry professionals and partners of the National Refurbishment Centre, giving visitors an overview of the approaches, costs, carbon savings and energy bill savings related to refurbishing a property.

  • Short presentations on National Refurbishment Centre Knowledge Papers, on issues such as occupant behaviour and financing retrofit projects.
  • Introduction to the National Refurbishment Centre’s Refurbishment Portal and how to upload your own case studies.
  • Introduction to Salford University's Victorian Eco House project and to the CoRE refurbishment raining and skills project in Stoke.
  • Launch of the Retrofit Compendium.
  • Research & Innovation Awards.
